Setting a place for ongoing gratitude
In keeping with the spirit of the upcoming holiday, two more giveaways are scheduled within the next few days.
National City Mayor Ron Morrison is hosting his annual Thanksgiving turkey giveaway.
This is the 17th year he and his assistant have hosted the event.
The food and drink distribution is done in collaboration with outside organizations who report to the mayor’s office their recipient recommendations.
Unlike other food giveaway, this is not a first-come, first-served affair.
One thousand National City families have been identified and selected to receive community largesse.
The first giveaway takes place Nov. 22 at Heart Revolution Church with a second and third giveaway planned for Nov. 25 Kimber Morgan Towers and Southwestern College’s National City campus.
The giveaway packages have been spoken for, making the distributions an invitation only affair.
In Chula Vista, Feeding San Diego and city mayor John McCann are hosting a free holiday food distribution this Saturday, Nov. 22.
From 10 a.m. to noon volunteers will pass out a frozen turkey breast, holiday meal staples and a variety of fresh produce.
No appointments are necessary for this walk-up and drive thru give away that will happen while supplies last.
The giveaway will take place at 1385 Third Ave. in Chula Vista.
Without a doubt a round of applause and mound of gratitude is owed the volunteers, vendors and community leaders for their contributions and lending a semblance of normalcy during these uncertain times.
We are sufficiently removed from another dark period in our lives that occurred not too long ago but should not be forgotten, at least not the people.
Five years ago, toward the tail end of 2020 we were still grappling with the uncertainty of the COVID pandemic. Through it all doctors, nurses, technicians and other hospital staff worked tirelessly to provide care and comfort to the sick.
This year is much different than 2025 but there will still be many in the healthcare field who will be working during the holidays.
For most it’s just part of the job. Nonetheless a moment of gratitude should be spared for them. For you I give thanks.
