The San Diego State women’s soccer team (6-3-1) played its first conference match as members of the Pac-12 Conference on Thursday night, Oct. 1, but fell to Boise State (9-1-1) 4-1 on the SDSU Sports Deck.

Boise State opened on the attack and Kailey Carlen made her first save of the night just 31 seconds into the match. The Lady Broncos took an early lead on a goal in the 14th minute. Two minutes later, Carlen saved another shot, followed by Victoria Miller recording the first SDSU shot on goal, but that too was saved.

In the 25th minute, Boise State was given the first yellow card of the match. Immediately afterwards, Emma Fuller forced another Boise State save. Two minutes later, Carlen made her third save of the night. Lily Boudet was given a yellow card in the 31st minute. Miller took another shot on target, which was also saved in the 41st. Just over two minutes later, the Aztecs were awarded a penalty kick and Miller converted into the left side of the net to even the score heading into halftime.

In the 52nd minute, Lady Broncos freshman Campbell Wilson was issued a yellow card. Another minute later, Kenny Moore forced Boise State to make another save. The Aztecs continued putting pressure on BSU as Alexyz Nakamoto had a shot on goal of her own, but it was Boise State which went back in front on a goal in the 69th minute. Two minutes later, Wilson added on with her ninth goal of the season. Moore immediately put another shot on target, but it was saved.

A couple of minutes later, Boudet was given her second yellow card of the match and had to leave the contest. Boise State extended its lead to three goals on a penalty kick in the 79th minute. Nakamoto and Moore continued putting shots on target for SDSU but were unable to get another into the net. Carlen made one more save on a shot in the 83rd minute, before the match ended with a 4-1 score.

The LayAztecs finished the match with more shots on goal (9-8), time of possession (53 to 43 percebt) and corner kicks (10-5). The Lady Broncos had more saves (8-4), shots (16-14) and fouls (11-8).

Miller’s goal was the ninth of her career, but the first one that did not occur in a win for San Diego State.

Aztec Women’s Soccer Takes Down No. 22 Texas State 1-0 for First Pac-12 Win

SDSU knocked off a top 25 team for the first time since 2017

The San Diego State women’s soccer team (7-3-1, 1-1-0 Pac-12) earned its first conference victory as members of the Pac-12 on Sunday, Oct. 4, with a road win at No. 22 Texas State (7-3-2, 0-2-0 Pac-12).

SDSU keeper Kailey Carlen made her first save of the day just 122 seconds into the match and San Diego State had a team save 34 seconds afterwards. However, it mostly be the Lady Aztecs making the opposing keeper work in goal the remainder of the match, putting 19 shots on goal in the final 87 minutes to the Bobcats’ one. Katie Senn had the first SDSU shot on goal in the fifth minute. Caitlyn Draper made the first of her 14 saves on a shot by Victoria Miller late in the eighth minute. Carlen made her final save of the day on Jenny Ngankem at 12:55.

Alexyz Nakamoto and Senn forced two more saves in the late 15th and early 16th minutes. KK Chowana-Bandhu took a nice shot in the 26th and was quickly followed by two from Miller and one each by Senn and Nakamoto. Chowana-Bandhu put up the Lady Aztecs’ 10th shot on target of the half in the 36th.

San Diego State’s pressure on Draper did not relent heading into the second half. Alexis Leath got things started with a shot to the bottom right of the net less than four minutes into the half. Chowana-Bandhu followed with one to the left side of the net a minute later. Ten minutes later, each added one more.

After Texas State was able to keep the Lady Aztecs away from the goal for a few minutes and give Draper a respite, Kenny Moore started things back up in the 72nd minute. Leath and Chowana-Bandhu each added shots on target in the 76th minute but Draper kept making stops to keep the match tied at zero. Finally, at 76:37, SDSU broke through. Katie Senn took a corner kick and Mia Hambro Svendsen headed it in for her first goal since she scored in the 1-0 win over Colorado State in the 2025 Mountain West quarterfinals. Texas State challenged the goal but was unsuccessful.

Senn looked to add on in the 81st minute, but Draper made one last save. A minute later, Texas State’s Annabelle Fisher was given a yellow card, the first one for either team in the match. The Lady Bobcats took two late shots, but they were off and their free kick with five seconds remaining fell harmlessly away as the Aztecs held on for the 1-0 win.

The Lady Aztecs finished the match with more shots (22-9), shots on goal (19-3), corner kicks (11-1) and fouls (18-6). The Lady Bobcats had more saves (14-2).

SDSU earned its first ranked win since defeating No. 22 Nebraska 2-1 in double overtime on September 8, 2017, but its first ranked win in regulation since a 2-0 victory at No. 16 Kentucky on August 23, 2015.

The Lady Aztecs round out this road trip with a match at Oregon State at 6 p.m. PT on Thursday, Oct. 8. All home matches on the SDSU Sports Deck have free admission, and all of the Aztecs’ Pac-12 matches are streamed on the Pac-12 YouTube channel.

San Diego State Men’s Soccer Ties Cal Poly 1-1

The Aztecs remain undefeated in Pac-12 play

The San Diego State men’s soccer team (2-6-5, 0-0-2) earned a 1-1 draw Wednesday, Oct. 7, against Cal Poly (4-3-5, 0-1-2) to remain undefeated in Pac-12 play.

“Overall, we had a strong 90-minute performance,” SDSU head coach Ryan Hopkins said after the match. “We’ve got to keep stacking these performances in league play and if we keep doing that, we will be right where we want to be at the end.”

The Aztecs struck early, scoring in the third minute when Jaxson Hutcheon finished an assist from Max Mair and Jonah Kawamura.

“I thought it was a world class goal and I’m just so proud of him,” Hopkins said of Hutcheon.

The Mustangs tied the match up in the 23rd minute after a review overturned an offside called. Defender Marlow Buettner sent a long ball from CP’s defensive end that found Finn Linas who was able to loop it over SDSU keeper Nic Diana.

In the 73rd minute, Cal Poly scored again but was once again called for being offside. The Mustangs challenged the ruling, but this time the offside was upheld, and the score remained knotted at one.

Diana had four saves and Nik Orth attempted four of SDSU’s eight shots, while putting two of them on frame.

Both teams had eight shots.

The Aztecs also tied Cal Poly 1-1 earlier this season (Aug. 30 at Cal Poly).

This was SDSU’s fifth tie on the year, which is tied for the most in a season under Coach Hopkins (7th season).

The Aztecs host Gonzaga Saturday at 7 p.m.

SDSU notched a 2-2 tie at No. 21 Oregon State on Sept. 30 in its Pac-12 opener.
