Jaguars clip Eagles’ wings, improve record to 4-0

The Southwestern College football team is 4-0 to start the 2026 community college season. Whether the Jaguars will be 5-0 will be determined Saturday when they host county rival San Diego Mesa College.

It appears to be the first real test for Southwestern, which enters this week ranked eighth in the state and 14th nationally after last week’s 40-12 toppling of host Mt. San Jacinto College.

The Olympians, ranked fourth in the state and seventh nationally, should present a strong challenge. They are also 4-0 to start the new season.

Kick-off is noon at DeVore Stadium.

Jags on the prowl
Saturday’s game in Menifee opened with a defensive safety as visiting Southwestern took a 2-0 lead.

The Jaguars weren’t satisfied with that as they tacked on 24 unanswered points for a 26-0 lead.

Elias Johnson scored on a four-yard tun to extend the lead to 9-0. Caleb Blocker scored on a five-yard run to make the score 16-0.

Daniel Meadows added a 29-yard field goal for a 19-0 lead and Damarrion White (Granite Hills) intercepted a pass and returned the ball 20 yards for a defensive touchdown.

The Jags scored two second-half touchdowns: a two-yard run by Johnson and a 90-yard kickoff return by Kiram Dallas.

SWC out-gained MJS 384-213 in total yards with a balanced effort of 204 rushing yards and 180 passing yards. The Jags punted three times while the Eagles were forced into six punts. The visitors logged 156 return yards.

Dominic Duran completed 13 of 17 passing attempts to 10 receivers. Bobby Cameron had one catch for 44 yards while Jeremiah Colbert had one catch for 41 yards to lead the yardage leaders. Dallas had two catches for 22 yards.

The visitors spread around the rushing attack. Jamar Johnson led the team with 16 carries for 59 yards while Elias Johnson had nine carries for 51 yards and two scores. Blocker rushed 10 times for 46 yards with one TD. Kavien Ford had four carries for 25 yards while Duran rushed twice for 19 yards.

Southwestern scored three rushing touchdowns, one pick six, one kickoff return and one field goal.

Niko Ta’a led the victors with five tackles. The Jags recorded two sacks.

Extra points
Special teams played a big part in the victory. White (Granite Hills) returned an intercepted pass for a touchdown while Dallas returned three kickoffs for a 52.0 average, including one for a 90-yard score.

Place-kicker Daniel Meadows continued to have a strong start for SWC with a field goal and five extra-point conversions for eight kicking points. He now has 31 kicking points on the season.

Steven Benson (Christian) returned to the lineup with seven kickoffs for a 60.0 average, including two touch backs.

Aaron Lee (Pt. Loma) averaged 35.3 yards on three punts, placing one kick inside the 20-yard line.

As for the Olympians?

Mesa kicked off the season with a 44-6 win over East Los Angeles, then topped Mt. San Antonio 20-19 before adding lopsided wins over Citrus (68-28) and Palomar (48-14).
