Youth sports champions honored at CV City Hall
Chula Vista city council members and Mayor John McCann turned cheer leaders at Tuesday’s city council meeting by honoring three deserving youth sports teams for their recent accomplishments.
McCann issued proclamations of recognition to each of the teams for winning regional and state championships this summer.
Two of the teams represented the Bonita Valley Girls Softball Association. The 10U Bronze team was the first team in the organization’s 50-year history to go undefeated through district, state and regional competition while compiling a prodigious 38-3 overall record.
The Bonita Valley 8U Gold team also won regional and state championships en route to a 37-10-1 record.
“The girls stayed to form for Bonita Valley,” manager Tim Doyle said.

The Bonita Valley Bronze team defeated the L.A. Bolts, 23-8, to claim the 10U California State Games Gold division bracket while the Bonita Valley 8U Gold team topped Orangecrest, 6-3, to win its Gold division bracket.
The Sweetwater Valley 10U baseball team capped its summer odyssey on the diamond with a 12-1 record that included district, section and state championship banners.
The state title was a first for the league at that age level and only the second among California District 42 teams in the last 24 years.
“It’s an unbelievable thing to be recognized at city hall,” SVLL manager Ryan Preciado said. “It’s a thing the kids will remember for the rest of their lives.”
Sweetwater Valley defeated District 70 champion Vista, 5-2, on July 25 to finish as the top team in Southern California.
