Veterans honored at SWC
Southwestern College paid tribute to America’s heroes during a Veterans Day ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 5, honoring the courage and service of the men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.
The event, hosted by the Veterans Resource Center, took place. in the Performing Arts Center on the Chula Vista campus.
The ceremony featured reflections of gratitude and recognition for those who have defended the nation’s freedoms.
“Veterans bring extraordinary leadership, resilience, and life experience to our campuses,” said Dr. Mark Sanchez, president of the San Diego and Imperial Counties Community Colleges Association and superintendent/president of Southwestern College. “Our colleges are deeply honored to serve them as they pursue higher education, new careers, and continued service to their communities.”
The event provides an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, and residents to come together in appreciation of veterans’ dedication and courage. The community heard from campus and community leaders, with moments of remembrance for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Southwestern College is known for its strong commitment to veterans and military-connected students. The Veterans Resource Center offers specialized support, including academic guidance, peer mentoring, benefits counseling, mental health resources, and priority registration to help ease the transition from military to civilian life.
The Veterans Day ceremony continues a long-standing campus tradition of honoring service members with respect and gratitude.
Tuesday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day, a federal holiday.
