Prioritize safety
As a concerned citizen of Chula Vista and parent of both high school and elementary school children, I am writing to express my concerns regarding the frequency of traffic violations at intersections in our community.
Since moving to Chula Vista, I have witnessed a significant number of drivers running red lights. While my daughter, a high school student, does not cross intersections during school hours, my two elementary school children do so daily. The amount of parents that don’t stop their cars at the light is very concerning. Children are left waiting until finally someone decided to either stop or a parent helps the children cross.
Our school has implemented a road guards program in the parking lot to direct traffic and it works well. This program, however, but this does not extend to the street. To address this issue, I urge the city of Chula Vista to consider finding it in their budget and investing in the hiring of road guards to patrol the streets and ensure the safety of pedestrians.
Many children walk home or to school alone, and the presence of road guards would significantly reduce the risk of accidents. While parents may be in a hurry during the morning commute, it is crucial to prioritize the safety of their children.
