Journalists’ work rewarded
The San Diego Press Club held its 52nd Annual Excellence in Journalism Awards Banquet Tuesday night, recognizing the achievements of public relations professionals and journalists throughout the county, including The Star-News.
Sports Editor Phillip Brents won first place and honorable mention in the Non-daily Newspapers—Sports category.
Former Star-News reporter Xiomara Gerardo won second place in the Non-Daily Newspapers:Feature-Light Subject category.
Student journalists from The SouthWestern College Sun also won awards, including Alfonso Julian Camacho who was the recipient of the 2025 San Diego Press Club Honorary Committee Scholarship.
Star-News editor Carlos Davalos also won awards.
