Chula Vista Art Guild kicks off 25th Fall Community Art Show
It’s autumn, and that means lots of art is happening in and around the city.
And yes, the Chula Vista Art Guild is celebrating its 25th Fall Community Art Show from Oct. 11 through Nov. 1 at the Bonita Museum and Cultural Center, highlighting local artists and giving them a chance to sell their work. Paintings and drawings for the juried exhibition will be accepted on Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon. The event is open to all San Diego County artists 18 and older, including non-members.
“This year we are accepting photography, ceramics, jewelry, and fabric works for the exhibit, though these will not be juried,” said Margot Villa, publicity chairperson. “All community artists are invited to participate, and the first 60 works submitted will be juried, with creativity as the most important criterion.”
Up to 60 juried pieces will be on display at the Bonita Museum, 4355 Bonita Road, with museum hours Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Many works will also be available for purchase, allowing artists to earn income from their creations.
An awards ceremony and reception are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., where first-place winners in the juried categories will receive $200, second-place winners $100, third-place winners $75, and two honorable mentions will receive certificates.
During the reception on Oct. 18, silent auctions will allow attendees to bid on some works and gift baskets.
“Focus on showing your best work so you can become known in the community and possibly expand your opportunities for self-promotion,” Villa said. “This event gives artists the chance to connect with the public, earn recognition, and sell their work.”
The show encourages emerging artists and local talent by offering prizes, awards, and the opportunity to sell their pieces. While final submissions are unknown until entry day, the event continues to provide a platform for San Diego County artists to gain exposure and build their reputations.
Founded in 1945 by Alfred R. Mitchell, the Chula Vista Art Guild has been active in the community for more than 80 years. The guild sponsors monthly meetings with demonstrations, public workshops, two annual scholarships for art students at Southwestern College, and an award for young artists at the San Diego County Fair.
For participating artists, full guidelines are available on the CVAG Art Show prospectus. Questions can be directed to chulavistaartguild@yahoo.com.
