Annual Shakespeare Festival is a midsummer production at Southwestern College

The Southwestern College Theatre Arts Department will present the third annual Southwestern Summer Shakespeare Festival from July 23 to Aug. 2, featuring two productions: A Midsummer Night’s Rockin’ Dream and Macbeth.

A Midsummer Night’s Rockin’ Dream is a musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s comedy, set in the 1950s United States, with original music by Ruff Yeager and lyrics by Omi Schein. Macbeth is a haunting and powerful interpretation of Shakespeare’s tragedy of ambition and fate.

Performances will be held at the Southwestern College Performing Arts Center Studio Theater, 900 Otay Lakes Road, Chula Vista. Free parking is available in Lot O.

Show dates for A Midsummer Night’s Rockin’ Dream are July 23, 25, 28, 31 and Aug. 2 at 7 p.m., and July 26 at 2 p.m. Macbeth will be performed July 24, 26, 29, 30 and Aug. 1 at 7 p.m., and Aug. 2 at 2 p.m.

Directors are Ruff Yeager for A Midsummer Night’s Rockin’ Dream and Kimberly King for Macbeth.

Student actors in A Midsummer Night’s Rockin’ Dream include Giancarlo Lugo as Oberon, Jeanae Mera as Titania, Lea Fuentes as Puck, Galadriel Bessette and Dominique Capiral as Helena and Hermia, Noah Brandel and Owsmar Ramirez Ortiz as Demetrius and Lysander, and Jamie Palitz as Bottom.

Macbeth features Cody Zeimer as Macbeth, Sofia Scafidi as Lady Macbeth, Imahni King as Banquo, Santiago Gordillo as Macduff and Christopher Redo as Duncan.

Admission is free for Southwestern College and Sweetwater Union High School District students. General admission is $10.
